About

I am inspired by botanical life and nature subjects such as plants, flowers, leaves, petals, and buds, as well as seashells and landforms/landscapes.
I am fascinated by their unique form and hidden details and use the final composition to enhance these qualities. As I depart from realistic representation, abstraction and stylization emerge. My nuanced brushwork and line rendering are considered expressive with movement.
Painting or drawing a subject is like re-inventing it and making it my own. I engage in a playful interaction of manipulating brush and paint, or pastel and charcoal. What emerges is often an abstraction depicting the essence and spirit of my subject.
My style and imagery are recognizable and parallel that of Georgia O’Keefe, who’s work continues to be a major influence on my creativity since my teenage years. In the summer of 2013, I fulfilled a long-time dream of touring O’Keeffe’s home in Abiquiu, New Mexico. That impressive experience fed my art soul deeply.
